Any time Dolce & Gabbana puts out a hardcover book let alone one photographed by Mariano Vivanco you had better stand at attention, straighten your hair, and promptly strip down to your skivvies. Yes, it’s that sort of book, a coffee table volume that presents idealized man in the altogether or at the very most a pair of Dolce briefs. Dolce & Gabbana Uomini, which means “men” in Italiano, celebrates twenty years of the luxury fashion house founded by Domenico e Stefano and also serves as a charitable vehicle for the EUPLOOS Project. A portion of profits from the book’s sale will help fund a digitization initiative undertaken by EUPLOOS to put the Uffizi Gallery’s prints and drawings online to create a complete, accessible computerized catalogue. To that end Ford Men in no small part aid the effort with chiseled Brazilian André Ziehe gracing the front and back covers. Inside Ford Men are amply represented by AJ Abualrub, Chris Folz, Chris Garavaglia, Clint Mauro, Eduardo Oliver, Julien Quevenne, Miguel Iglesias, Sam Saffman, and Tom Warren who also feature and put paid to the idea that nothing artistic can result from doodz and noodz.
