Hanne Gaby (Ford) featured in the Bottega Veneta Resort 2013 presentation. About Tomas Maier’s collection, WWD had this to say, “It was, as he said, ‘about very painterly inspiration’ that could be traced to artists Tiepolo and Veronese, whose work led to the palette of pastels — yellow, pink and purple — interspersed with floral-printed cashmere and studded embroideries worked on feminine silhouettes.” [WWD]
Vidal Sassoon, the legendary London-born hairdresser, died yesterday in Los Angeles of leukemia at age 84. Sassoon is recognized as having revolutionized women’s hairstyling with his introduction of the geometric bob in the early 1960s, which coincided with the rise of the Women’s Lib movement. The so-called “wash-n-go” haircut afforded women less preparation time, thereby throwing off the yokes of previous, more restrictive beauty regimens. “My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous,” WWD quoted Sassoon as saying 11 years ago in the Los Angeles Times. “Women were going back to work, they were assuming their own power. They didn’t have time to sit under the dryer anymore.” [WWD]
