Julia Nobis (Ford) yesterday opened the Christian Dior Couture Fall 2012 show in Paris, thereby heralding the dawn of Belgian creative designer Raf Simons’s reign at the storied French house. The hotly anticipated debut hearkened back to the label’s origins. Writing in the Guardian, fashion editor Jess Cartner-Morley explained, “By making a visual connection between his era and that of Christian Dior himself, Raf Simons has redrawn the line of succession. The unimpeachable codes of Dior are illustrated for a new generation; the bias-cut dresses and Kabuki styling of [John] Galliano downgraded to a footnote.” Sigrid Agren (Ford), Daiane Conterato (Ford), Hanne Gaby (Ford), Lara Mullen (Ford), Andie Arthur (Ford), and Ming Xi (Ford) also featured.
