A soon-to-be alumna of the Dalton School, NYC native Emily Carter (Ford Women) has been professionally mugging for the camera since her junior year of high school. This summer, she’s off to Paris to start modeling full-time, but she’s planning to squeeze in the de rigueur postgrad jaunt through Europe with friends too.

Emily Carter’s Best of NYC

She’s been admitted to Kenyon College in Ohio—“It’s going to be very different waking up to trees and grass!”—and will head to the Midwest after taking time off to work. An avid reader (she currently has bookmarks in both Catch-22 and American Psycho), Carter’s true love is horror movies. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and Rosemary’s Baby are on her short list, and she even has a key chain that makes her think of one of Hitchcock’s creepiest thrillers. Before she crosses the Atlantic, we pressed Carter for her favorite spots in her hometown. Click through the slide show below to see where she finds her favorite chai latte, vintage tees, and that freaky key chain.

  • "Although it sounds like it sells cupcakes, Grand St. Bakery is actually an amazing vintage store. They have a huge selection of supersoft, worn-in, perfect white tees. My favorite purchase is a graphic T-shirt from the ’70s that I wear with jeans to school and castings."

  • "Catbird was introduced to me by Allaire Heisig (Ford Women), and I've been back a bunch of times since. I have a pair of little gold spider earrings that I wear every day. I'm afraid of spiders, but I like them on jewelry! It's a great place for gifts since everything is really cute and affordable."

  • "At Kiosk, you're allowed on the roof. It has a gorgeous view of Prince Street and SoHo. Inside, they have a very strange, incredible collection of products. The buyers find things on their travels and sell them in the shop for about six months, which means the store is constantly changing and evolving. I bought a key chain that looks like an old orange motel key. It makes me feel like Norman Bates every time I open my front door."
