On Saturday Ford+ hosted its first open call in over a decade at 205 Hudson Street in Tribeca and in the process came away with a quartet of new models they plan to sign. Aspirants were rumored to have begun queueing on the street as early as 6:30 the morning of the event. Enthusiasm for the occasion was not solely the concern of those looking to be signed, Vogue Italia in fact was on hand throughout the entire casting call to provide consultation and a streaming gallery of photos from the day’s proceedings. Several Ford+ models also attended including Amber Tolliver, Chloe Marshall, Georgina Burke, Inga Eriksdottir, Jessica Collins, Kaela Humphries, Leah Kelley, Marquita Pring, Myla Dalbesio, Sophie Sheppard, Tate Culter, and Wendy Brooks to welcome the new signees. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Spring 2012 Costume Institute exhibition Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations will not open to the public until this Thursday, but WWD nevertheless has an exclusive preview of it. At the heart of the exhibition lies a conceit, Italian designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada occupy two completely different eras, thereby making impossible any literal connection. Still, though curators Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton remain undaunted and rather relish the challenge posed. “These women could be in the same room today, yet there’s not a relationship,” Koda told WWD during an exclusive walkthrough on Friday. “And that’s what’s been fun about this show: seeing these connections.” [WWD]

Adam Yauch died Friday in Manhattan at the age of 47. Best known by his stage name MCA, the founding member of the Beastie Boys had been undergoing treatment for cancer of the salivary gland for the last three years. The outpouring of public grief was considerable and duly cast a pall over the ensuing weekend. Photographer Glen E. Friedman offered a particular poignant remembrance of his late friend on his personal blog. “It’s been surreal since this morning. I have no real words to share with the general public, it’s personal.” Friedman nonetheless posted a dozen of his favorite photographs he had taken of Yauch over the years. Rest in peace, MCA.
