As the creator of just-launched Mercy & Wild, Ford Men’s Isaac Carew is the architect behind a unique fashion and philanthropy mash-up. The clothing line, which specializes in sustainably produced T-shirts designed by on-the-rise artists, donates a portion of proceeds to a different charity each season. But Mercy & Wild isn’t stopping at monetary support; the company is also using its tees to promote causes its employees are passionate about. First up is Dyslexia Action, a British charity committed to providing excellent education for dyslexics. The line’s debut tees feature cheeky shout-outs to the learning disability, like a stack of books with all the titles misspelled, or the tag line I Put the Sexy in Dyslexic (true, for sure, in the case of Carew, who is indeed both sexy and dyslexic). Each of this season’s six tees was designed by an up-and-coming illustrator, adding another layer of positive promotion to the operation. And at the risk of a feel-good overload, it’s necessary to note that all the wares are super eco: In addition to being made from organic cotton at a small, solar-powered, and Fair Trade factory in India, the tees are shipped to the United Kingdom by boat—the better to reduce Mercy & Wild’s carbon footprint.
Carew, for his part, is thinking about next season’s charity and keeping up with cooking, his other love. A professional chef from age 16 to 22, Carew hung up his whites when he started modeling, but he’s not dismissing the possibility of a food-related venture in the future. Given Mercy & Wild’s smooth debut, we’re excited for whatever he comes up with next.
