Sigrid Agren (Ford), no stranger to Chanel, claims the Spring 2012 Rouge Coco Chanel campaign. According to Chanel.com, “New lightweight lip colour glides on for easy application, and features a Hydratendre complex to help soften, soothe and condition lips – even boosting their ability to hold in moisture – for a plumper, smoother and healthier-looking appearance.” Indeed, and also casting Sigrid shouldn’t hurt sales. Fall 2012 proved itself to be a massive season and to make sense of it all Imran Amed, founder and editor-in-chief of The Business of Fashion, trains his sights on the hits (KCD, Lanvin, Chinese models) and the misses (NYFW calendar congestion, Parisian PR, Jil Sander). Special praise is reserved for Rick Owens’s use of that catchy banger of a track by Zebra Katz on the runway. Cogent, reasoned, here is to hoping Spring 2013 takes on board many of Amed’s observations. [Business of Fashion]
Fashion Star, a new fashion designer competition reality TV series, debuts tonight on NBC. The program will vet up-and-coming designers before a judging panel comprised of three retailer buyers from Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M. Designs that draw bids from buyers will be available for purchase the day after the airing episode from one of the participating retailers. The virtually overnight time to market (the series was filmed six months ago) promises to trump its Lifetime predecessor Project Runway. [New York Times]
SXSW 2012 is in full swing down in Austin, Texas. With hundreds of artists scheduled perform through Sunday it can be difficult to separate the dope from the wack. Hypetrak, however has made it easy with their daily festival picks. For Tuesday be sure to catch Danny Brown as well as the Stones Throw Records showcase amongst others. [Hypetrak]
