Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Spring 2012 / 2013 or as it is known by the humanoid users of the interweb, Sydney Fashion Week, concluded today. That Sydney resides in the Southern Hemisphere means its seasons are opposite of those north of the equator, which makes an already confusing seasonal fashion calendar with even more complicated. Thankfully, however photographer Tommy Ton was on hand all week shooting street style pictures, thereby providing a modicum of continuity between the shows Down Under and the rest. Nicola Formichetti has talked up his new signature line destined for debut some time in 2013. The Mugler creative director was in Hong Kong for the opening of his Nicopanda pop-up shop at the Lane Crawford flagship store and spoke of his plans to launch his very own fashion brand. Details about the label were few, but Formichetti said high technology would play a role. “We’ve been working with the same fabrics, the same techniques for hundreds of years. That’s all great, but we need something new.” However the line turns out, it is a safe bet Formichetti’s likeness will not go untapped. [WWD]
The Wall Street Journal explores the parallel histories of Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton that are at the heart of the exhibition currently running at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Jacobs speaking with Tina Gaudoin explained, “The connection between the couturier Monsieur [Charles Frederick] Worth and me was drawn by the curator of the exhibit. I’m not attached to it but, of course, I like it. There are definite parallels between what I do and what he did.” [WSJ]
