Late last week Delfine Bafort (Ford) featured on Nowness in a short film by Belgian director Stef Viaene titled “Delfine.” The work, which owes as much to the balletic expressiveness of Delfine as it does to the evocative sound design by Rafaël Sellekaerts, jolts to life a pair of riding boots by A.F. Vandevorst. The clap of cloven hooves gallop through the 5.1 soundscape as arresting images of a convulsive Delfine flash on screen. The synthesis of sound and image forever alters what might otherwise would have been just another pair of finely-crafted leather boots. “Delfine” is part of a series of seven unique shorts by different film makers channeling the essence of designers including Dries Van Noten, Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens to be screened in a site-specific installation by artist Simon Costin at the Old Selfridges Hotel in London.
