Since Emmanuelle Alt took the editorial reins of Vogue Paris, the first two covers may have featured fashion icons in the form of Gisele Bündchen and Kate Moss, but the issues themselves are not simply greatest hits tributes à la Rolling Stone Nay, Vogue Paris Mai 2011 in particular delivers a rousing jolt of contemporary joy in the form of Karmen Pedaru photographed by Terry Tsiolis for a story titled “Smoking!”. The Estonian beauty models six black & white menswear looks styled by Géraldine Saglio that are at turns glamorous, humorous, and feminine. Karmen duly opens proceedings by wearing a black & white poplin blouse and white, high-waisted cotton trousers by Nicole Fahri, white elastic suspenders by American Apparel, laser-cut leather belt with gold buckle by Alexander McQueen, and a black felt hat by Moschino. Well fit and keenly in demand, Karmen Pedaru is an asset to any issue in which she features including even the nine hundred seventeenth issue of le géant Vogue Paris.
