A year ago for the Harper’s Bazaar September fall preview Karmen Pedaru provided the vehicle of fashion analysis for the International Herald Tribune fashion editor Suzy Menkes. This year, however the honor goes to Ford’s Maryna Linchuk in a Harper’s Bazaar September 2011 twelve page study of color and texture by photographer Paola Kudacki and fashion editor Natasha Royt. Last year Menkes sensed a caution about the fall collections, but this year she has thundered that “fashion is under a cloud,” that is, an angsty mass of condensed water vapor that has produced lightning flashes of color, claps of excitement. Fall 2011 is all about “hot new hues” starting with Maryna’s opening look, a silk chiffon dress by Gucci, Chloé cuff, and sandals by Tom Ford. The Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2011 campaign model‘s looks shine by dint of her inspired movement and the spare backgrop of the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Belarusian’s fifth look, a Dolce & Gabbana dress and belt and a pair of Christian Louboutin heels, perhaps best embodies Menkes’s cloudy thesis. We’re in for a bright autumn, then, and thankfully Maryna Linchuk is here to narrate its excellent color story.
