“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to violence,” intones the narrator of Russ Meyer‘s Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1966) in the opening frames of the B-movie classic, “The word and the act. While violence cloaks itself in a plethora of disguises, its favorite mantle still remains – sex.” Not just any sex either, but that of three gun-crazy strippers who run riot out West in the desert. However improbable the plot it has been reprised for the special Tom Ford guest-edited holiday issue of Vogue Paris. No retread, however would be complete if it didn’t involve top castings for the three leading vixens which include Ford’s Crystal Renn along with Abbey Lee Kershaw and Eniko Mihalik. Titled “Pussy West” and photographed by Terry Richardson, the story opens with an arrival scene wherein Crystal sits on the hood of a 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG wearing a long wool crêpe dress in ivory by Versace, necklace and bracelets by Kenneth Johnson, and black suede lace-up boots by Gianvito Rossi. The story continues blazing through scenes of seduction, murder, and mourning. As far as Crystal’s recent Vogue Paris features go, this is a decidedly staid affair free of feasts and plastic surgery of earlier outitngs, but all the same she looks magnificent and, importantly, right at home in the Wild Wild Pussy West.
