Just when your faith in fashion is at a low ebb, Vogue Italia restores it with the gravity of an all-star editorial. In the October 2010 issue of Condé Nast‘s Italian flagship glossy Craig McDean photographs amongst others Ford’s Hanne Gaby Odiele and Valerija Kelava in a story titled “Short: The New Ease.” Rounding out the distinguished production roster are fashion editor Edward Enninful, hair stylist Eugene Souleiman, and makeup artist Diane Kendal who combine to stunning effect. Short in hemline, short in accessories, short in staging, but this editorial is never short in style. Short white socks are employed to place emphasis on Hanne Gaby’s Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière heels or Valerija’s Miu Miu heels (not pictured) and in the process show a little more leg. The minimal staging of Piers Hanmer warrants special praise for the way in which it gestures toward a domestic setting, but in such a basic and unadorned way as to make it look absurd.
