Ford Models started strong out of the gate at London Fashion Week, dominating the runways at several shows. At Topshop Unique on Sunday, Antonia Wesseloh, Kate King, Valerija Kelava, Daiane Conterato, Erjona Ala, Hanne Gaby, Ruby Jean Wilson, Julia Nobis, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Alice Cornish, Karolina Wąż, Ming Xi, Tao Okamoto, and Ford Women’s Lara Mullen walked. Erjona Ala closed the Egyptian-themed collection in a turquoise and gold dress, accessorized Cleopatra-like, with gilded hair, nails, and bracelets.

Although New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 is done and dusted, traces of the eight-day jamboree persist. My half-dead BlackBerry has enough life, however, to recall 20 photos taken backstage with it over the course of the week. When I wasn’t busy shooting video on the sly, then I was doing my best to take full advantage of the smartphone’s camera without any of those daft retro-come-lately camera apps. There is an undeniable honesty and immediacy to these mobile-phone images, which in another 15 years will no doubt be nostalgically aped by whatever technologies we will use to capture pictures. Gant designer Michael Bastian—last year’s CFDA menswear winner—gave his collegiate-friendly collection some Hawaiian punch for Spring. While preppy campus essentials such as rugby tops, blazers, chinos, and madras formed the basis of the collection, Bastian added a retro Hawaii Five-O feel with florals, totem pole patterns, and pops of bright color.
